Fotokurse - Berlin School of Photography: what do users think?

Rob Murray: My partner and I did the Level 1 course with Alberto and really enjoyed the course and our day! Alberto was a professional and thorough teacher while still leaving lots of time to ask questions and get creative. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone hoping to learn more about their camera and start to embark on their first steps to becoming a better photographer.
Response: Thanks for your feedback, we are very happy you enjoyed the Workshop.

Milica Ilic: I had a photo tour with Alberto and it was really nice! Alberto was really patient and taught us some cool tips and tricks :D The tour was almost 3 hours, and I really enjoyed it.

Henriette de Wit: I highly recommend the Forest Photography course to anyone who wants to learn more about photography and be closer to nature. Bettina is very inspiring, full of interesting stories and a skilled photographer. She hosted us in an idyllic setting, thought us the most important photography techniques and guided us on a forest bathing to awaken our senses and creativity before we could wander off on our own to put all that we learned into practise. We concluded the day with soup and cake and reviewing the photos that we took that day. For me it was an amazing experience.
Response: Thank you. We are very happy you enjoyed the course. Hope to see you again.

Tony Costanzo: A big thank you to the wonderful guys at Berlin School of Photography and especially Bettina for the fantastic phototours of Berlin I attended when I visited Berlin. I did the Big 5 and the Street Art tours which were a perfect introduction to the city. I was in town on business and did not have a lot of free time. Being an enthusiast photographer I was keen to capture some special photos during my all too brief visit. Bettina’s Big 5 tour was a perfect and efficient way to see some Berlin highlights and her great eye and knowledge of the city helped me get some of my most favourite photos I have ever taken. She challenged me to use different perspectives and techniques for what could easily have been routine snapshots. My long exposure ground shot of the pretzel man at Brandenburg Gate is one of my most prized photos! The street art tour around the East Side gallery area was also a wonderful experience with some really fun and memorable photos. Thank you Berlin School of Photography! I recommend these tours to anyone visiting Berlin no matter how long your stay! Images posted on instagram @gvairo1

Yongmin Hwang: Bettina was a very approachable teacher, and the group had a lot of fun! Would recommend!
Response: Thanks for your lovely feedback.

jess pirani: It was a pleasure meeting Bettina. She is super friendly and taught me a lot of interesting things during our class. I came back home feeling really inspired to keep going. I highly recommend the school.

Jan Meemken: The time at Berlin School of Pgotography was just a big pleasure! Learning from professional trainer, meeting cool people from all over the world in an awesome city! Just ❤️ the whole experiences! See u next time in BERLIN 🐻
Response: Many thanks, we are happy you enjoyed the time with us.was a pleasure teaching you.

Jaco Naude: They worked out a Photography Course specificly for our Needs.Very 'Hands on' Training and Workshops. They came to our Office, great service and very professional. Highly recommended!
Response: Thanks, we are very happy you enjoyed the customised training.

isis Kuaygarond (XxIsisxX): I had so much fun learning how to use my camera properly. Very well explained with a lot of practical exercises !! I would 100% recommend this course if you’re wanting to learn photography!

New School of Photography Berlin: what do users think?

Max Sprott: I’ve been a student at Neue Schule for 2 years. This school has helped me to find myself as a photographer. I owe a lot to the teachers of this school. Very selfless people. The teachers at this School are unparalleled and you will not find others like them at other Photo schools in Berlin. Students that tend to be disappointed at the school or don’t enjoy it are generally those that can’t push themselves. This school is here to pull the most out of you and you have to be prepared to work for that, many think it’s given to them. We are a big family at our school. If that speaks to you come see our facilities and darkrooms or just say hello:)

frauke decoodt: Before you apply maybe ask them for their study plan, and how and what they intend to teach you, achieve a learning curve that gets you from point A to B. Make sure this learning plan is in the contract, dont pay large amount all at once so in case they do not comply you do not loose all your money. Make sure the contract is as detailled as possible about hours, locations, teachers, use of facilities . .... I appreciate they had complications because of covid and tried to make up with access to the school after the term ended. But still a very overpriced course for the content we got.

Shanelle de Melo: I am currently a student at the Neue Schule Für Fotografie and words cannot express the level of disappointment I feel towards this school. The education of myself and fellow classmates has been severely compromised by the poor choices made by the board. They do not care about the well-being of their students and have shown a huge lack of respect and morality in their actions. I cannot stress enough that I do not recommend this school to anyone!

Jakob Wierzba: The education I have received here served me more than my run at a "renowned fine arts academy". Felt more personal + dedicated teachers.

Mateo Cidrás: (Course in English) I did the first semester in this school, very disappointed and not recommended at all. Very bad organization, very few classes, very bad experience. Of course I will not continue the following semester.

Kate Demchenko-Zalvovska: Fine place, but not the most interesting and expressive

Carys: I had an awful experience with this school

International Photography School: what do users think?

Jérôme Jossin: Really recommending this school if you want to upskill yourself in photography. Really enjoyed the 3-month course I did in studio photography! I loved the mix of theory and practice, the quality of our lecturers, the visits of museums and studios, and the pratical tips I have gained during the different classes. On top of that, the director of the school is fantastic. Not only he is super experienced and friendly, he was always gving honest feedback to help sharpen my skills.
Response: Thank you so much 🙏🏼

Uliana Malinoŭskaya: I’ve attended 3-months basic course (studio & staged photography) at IPS. I highly recommend this school and basic courses for beginner photographers. The teachers have a lot of knowledge and are very encouraging. The classes vary with theory and practice.
Response: Thank you ♥️

Caoimhe Sweeney: We booked a private workshop with IPSB to teach our marketing team how to bring our portrait photography inhouse. In only two 3 hour workshops we learned so much. Marc was a fantastic teacher and we really enjoyed the classes. Booking a private workshop is a great idea for anyone looking to save their business high outsourcing fees. I would definitely recommend this school and their workshops to anyone interested!
Response: Thank you 🙏

Berylhyyy: I joined the weekend “Fashion and Portraiture Lighting” workshop, the course covered more than just lighting, it helps student like me to find the right direction whoever wants to develop themselves in photography, I highly recommend the course.
Response: Thank you so much 😊

Charlotte Clemensen: IPS is the place to go if you want to be part of an inspiring and creative community. A community where you can explore the opportunities of the photography world and find your own path!
Response: ❤️

Enrique R. Aguilar: The courses taught at the school are very good. The teachers are highly trained and encourage the student to develop their skills as a photographer. There is a great working material both technical and theoretical. The students are also very interesting and contribute a lot to the conversations in class. The school encourage the use of photobooks as a way of learning from other photographers. For me it is important to see different points of view and having inspiration from not only photography but other topics as well. I recommend it if you are interested in training as a photographer.

Celine Chappert: A well-rounded curriculum on the world of studio & staged photography delivered by a versatile group of working professionals from various fields in the industry. I really enjoyed this course !
Response: 🙏🏼

Ivanna Gomez: It was a pleasure to learn from Marc! It was practical and so insightful. I really enjoyed the level of detail, depth and the chance to explore various techniques. Thank again :)
Response: 😊

H B: The IPS offers an education in photography second to none in Berlin. You are taught by industry experts and artisans on a broad range range of topics including analog photography, history & theory, studio & lighting and much more. The classroom environment is a great balance of critical feedback as well as encouragement and inspiration that really works to develop your skills and insight as a photographer. I have learnt so much in my two terms at IPS and have become a much better photographer for it - looking forward to learning more in the future and I really recommend to anyone looking to learn more about photography or become a better photographer.

Safelight Berlin: what do users think?

Katharina Leffers: I developed some film rolls for the first time with Safelight Berlin and am more than happy with how they turned out! Amazing quality and the scans were done earlier than it was communicated on their website :) There was a little problem with one of my rolls but the customer service was amazing and sent me the missing scans asap Totally recommend and will continue to develop my films with them!

sarah Y: I mailed my film from Bavaria and was able to download the scans online within a few days. The quality was great. I was happy to view my pictures without having to wait long. The processing time was faster than the drop-off locations around the Munich area that I checked AND it was also cheaper (even after shipping with at least two rolls). Thank you.
Response: Thank you for the kind words!

Amryn Shae: I’ve had my film developed many many many places but have never had such sharp, clean, gorgeous scans as I did with Safelight! So happy with how my photos turned out. Was just visiting Berlin but wish I could’ve stayed in the area to develop the rest of my film from the trip here!!!! Also, compared to back home, the prices here were excellent.

Hanna Junginger: I’ve been developing my rolls at this shop for 2 years now and I’ve been happy with the Scans but the enormous waiting time is just ridiculous. You can get jt developed quickly but you have to pay extra 5€ per roll, it’s not like the developing itself is already expensive. Doesn’t matter how much new rolls you buy online or develop, you still have to come up for the shipping. Getting the Scans back by mail will cost you 5€ too. Sadly I live on the countryside now and I don’t have that much options but if you live in Berlin - there are great places for less money, less dust on the pics and way less time(!)

Wiktoria Wyczynska: Super nice store, Alberto is super professional! Paula from lab is always responding for emails polite, good scans.Highly recommend

Anna Bevilacqua: The best place in Berlin for analog photography. Staff is amazing and they have a great selection of films, cameras and books.

Blake Smythe: Awesome friendly straff, always gets my film back quicker than expected. Best place in Berlin for all your analogue camera needs

Steve Karsten: They have a good selection of film here at great prices. 35, 120, instant and some 4x5. They also develop and scan. Hi quality work! This is a great lab with lots of high quality printing options. Develop and scan of 35mm is roughly €17. They also rent out cameras. Digital, instant, and when I was there they had a Hasselblad and Mamiya RZ67 available.

Helu Collien: I go here printing since long, i like the quality and service.. sometimes noone calls when the photos are done...

Karina Khachatryan: Great selection of film and the staff is really helpful and nice

Willhelm Schmerz: They damaged the film and did not refund. I went to another store and they confirmed that the film was damaged during the development.

orbed: They are professional and reliable most of the time and they have light tables for checking your film.

Guillaume Guerin: I confirm the previous comment about PixelGrain Berlin, not professionnal at all, employes are not able to manage their responsability, i can leave the laboratory with the files of someone else, i mean there is no protection of your files, any one can copy it when you are at the laboratory. Simply, forget about it !

Tokoni B Orupabo: Super good service. Patient and friendly staff.what more can a customer wish for? thumbs up lads!

Jochen Rohner ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHIE: what do users think?

Martin Monk: The best analogue black & white prints you can get in Berlin! Plus, Jochen now offers digital workflows too with high-resolution full negative (including black border and perforation) scanning, which is of outstanding professional quality. And he will also develop any film of any format (except E-6 process) to a higher quality standard than your average lab. Highly recommended!

Felicia Scheuerecker: From film development to print. Great advice on barite prints. High-quality production of barite prints and retouching of analog b / w photographs also for galleries. Many variations of formats. Top photo laboratory equipment. Laboratory spaces can also be rented. Highly recommended.

Norbert Wiesneth: Since 2001, Jochen Rohner has been producing all formats of analogue black and white photography in uncompromising quality. Top-class photo artists value his work: Dieter Appelt, Harald Hauswald, Horst Hamann, Klaus Kinold, Will McBride, Ulrike Ottinger, Heinrich Riebesehl, Hans-Christian Schink, Dayanita Singh, Thomas Struth, among many others. Institutions such as Edition Panorama, Institut Heidersberger, CO Galerie, Galerie Kicken, Museum Hamburger Bahnhof and the Museum for Photography also rely on his first-class work.

Collodion Workshop - Collodion Wet Plate Photography - Berlin: what do users think?

Jørn Deleuran: I attended a weekend workshop with Daniel Samanns, and I had no experience whatsoever with the complex and labor intensive wet plate collodion process; Daniel was en excellent teacher, and with enthusiasm and good laughs he passed some of his own, hard earned skills on, so that i am now confident that I will be able to be a practicing collodionist my self.
Response: Dear Jørn, thanks for your wonderful words :-) It was my greatest pleasure going through all aspects of the collodion process with you and experiencing your highest interest, motivation and concentrated attention that is to be seen in your wonderful results and plates. Seeing that you are able to handle and run the collodion process on your own makes you a perfect collodionist already :-) ... and me more than happy :-) Setting up the process on your own at home will be one of the easyer excercises as you now have all required skills and tools in your pockets :-) And whenever you might have a question I will be there to support :-) :-) :-)

Robert Wisniewski: Daniel was a great teacher - very accommodating, patient and kind. He was very knowledgeable on the process and brought both fun and a deep understanding to this fascinating process of photography
Response: Thanks alot, dear Robert Looking forward and hope to see your next collodion wet plate photographs soon ;-)

Zsanett Schmied: The workshop was extremely exciting and intensive. In addition, Daniel is very competent and experienced, which is clearly noticeable. I was able to learn a lot at the workshop and am already looking forward to being able to use the method myself. Anyone who decides to learn wet plate photography from scratch is in good hands with him. Highly recommended!
Response: Thank you for the flowers, dear Zsanet. It was a great pleasure for me to see how your training in handling the plates has shown itself so beautifully and flawlessly in the resulting plates and I'm already looking forward to the first works that you will create at home.

Luise Zibolsky: I am glad that I made the long way from Amsterdam to Berlin to follow the Collodion Workshop. To my knowledge, the only one in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium takes 2 full days to explain everything, to practice and then try out. The 2 days are needed to understand everything and to learn and to be able to understand the basics of the process. Daniel is very patient, calm (which you should definitely take) and makes a pleasant way to steam when necessary. Overall, a very pleasant and cosmopolitan type with a lot of knowledge, especially about the ambrotypes. It was a fantastic and instructive weekend. Thank you for everything!
Response: Thank you, dear Louise. The workshop was also a lot of fun for me and I am happy about your great results.

Hermann Groess: Daniel Samanns shares his well-founded knowledge with the participants in the collodion workshop. He teaches his course participants directly the skills necessary to achieve the fascinating results that ignite a passion for this historic technique.
Response: Thank you, dear Herman It was my great pleasure :-) :-) :-)

Markus Düing: After the 2-day workshop with Daniel Samanns I am able to create my own glass plate. On the first day there were detailed explanations about the process, the liquids to be produced and, most importantly, safety when handling the chemicals. Collodion, developer and fixer were prepared. On the second day, the focus was mainly on practice. By the end of the day I had made my first records. With his calm and patient nature, Mr. Samanns conveys the material in a very pleasant way. It was a very instructive, relaxed and sometimes funny weekend with the result that I can now photograph collodion plates.
Response: Thank you, dear Markus, it was a pleasure :-)

Marika: a great workshop last year !!! many thanks dear daniel! i learned a lot ..
Response: It was a great pleasure for me, dear Marika, and your progress and pictures are getting better and better :-) :-) :-)

Foto-Meyer Digital Imaging: what do users think?

Mark Turner: Great location and an excellent selection of cameras and accessories. The service is top notch. They will price match up to a certain price if you ask nicely. The prices are great anyway. I support local businesses because they are important. Give them a shot and you will be very satisfied.

James Campbell: Nice photo shop. They have analog stuff, u can get some cheap second hand equipment, and the staff is pretty good.

Chandan B S: Extensive collection of cameras. There are dedicated areas from different camera manufacturers in their place where you can try out the models you are interested to purchase. Very limited discounts. Staff do offer decent advice if you are looking for accessories. It was a pleasant and happy experience!

Sid Patil: Amazing place, it’s full of camera equipment and you’ll find the right stuff here. The staff is super nice and welcoming and will guide you. They have new stuff and their collection of preowned lenses is vast as well. I’d recommend checking their website for what you need before visiting.

C: I came here for the third time for passport/ID photos, as the first two times (years apart) were good. Overall the vibe was less friendly and attentive than before, but not horrible. BUT the Bureau then rejected the photos Meyer shot because they did not meet international biometric standards (my mouth was slightly open). So for the next 10 years I will identify myself with a bad surprise emergency machine photo taken after coming in from the rain. I did get my money back, but the photographer gave no more than a sullen look, and her colleague complained that the Bureau was too strict. I find these reactions surprising and unprofessional after such a fundamental mistake in a neighborhood shop that is supposed to know its stuff.
Response: Dear C, thank you for your honest feedback and please accept our apologies. All photos taken by our photographers according to official biometrical standards are double checked to guarantee that they meet the respective standards. Therefore it is very uncommon for any of our photos to not be accepted. This hardly ever happens at all. We understand, however, that this explanation does not help you in your particular case. We made a mistake. Please be assured that we do not take this easy at all. What could we offer? Would you be interested in an additional photo shoot for free? Maybe you‘d like a new photo (biometric or not) for other purposes? We‘d really like to win you back as our satisfied customer. If you‘d like to give us that chance, please contact me at studio@fotomeyer.de. Please refer to your review and my response. Thank you and again we are very sorry! Kind regards Vincent Meyer

Víctor H Quiroz Castro: They have tons of equipment and accessories for photography and binoculars. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Totally recommended.

Konstantin Fernau: Greta Service. Staff is very knowledgable, prices are normal.

John Groenendijk: Good service, they reserved a lens for me, 1 star left because via the e-mail they gave me 80 euro for my used objective, in the shop they changed this to 20 euro!

M M Mahler: First of - the Crew is really friendly! I came to this shop because I wanted to sell my Camera. A set for the camera (bag + belt and lens) is available at ~500€ in local stores. On Rebuy I would get 300€ for the Camera alone. So I thought of supporting local business but I have to say - I was very dissapointed. Even though the camera was in near perfect condition, because we never used it, they offered me 100€ for the Camera. Saying I got the whole set to sell too and on Rebuy I would get 300€ did not change anything. The shop argumented that they have to sell guarantee too and tax etc. which is just a plain useless argument. Guarantee is nothing that should drive the price down over 66% and the tax can be put onto the customer. To sum it up - Maybe for buying Cameras this shop is pretty good but for seeling your equipment - use dedicated services like rebuy. It is not worth the travel.

Mona Jain: My son studies in catalyst and I can see in one year of the programme his skill has multiplied manifold . It’s a great environment and student friendly institute which encourages original thinking . Professors are extremely helpful and themselves experts on their field of music .
Response: Hi Mona - thank you for the kind words. We’re pleased your son has benefited from our practice-based approach to learning with us. We will pass on your kind words to you son’s teachers.

Sylvia Gozdek: I took the 4-week Filmmaking short course over the summer in 2020 and had an incredible time. Together with my classmates, we created 11 films together! This meant I played through quite a lot of the different roles on the 6 sets I was on... It really is amazing how much ground we covered. From lighting and camera, to script writing and directing, through to editing and screening. This course is perfect for an ambitious beginner like me or even someone who has a bit of experience and is looking for a fast paced challenge.
Response: Thank you for sharing Sylvia, we encourage you to keep up this rhythm and look forward to following your creative projects!

Heath B: Despite being the in the first degree program at dbs Berlin, and the humble campus we had in comparison today, I cannot say anything negative about this institution. The degree program was aimed at students seeking a complete education preparing us for our final year’s thesis. Each subject was taught from simple to more complex, and understandably there may be some with more experience than others, but reinforcing the basics is essential. The support I got from all tutors was excellent and inspired passion to learn and grow. Following the degree, I was able to work as a freelancer, delivering high quality work to a variety of clients. Despite not currently working in music, what I learned socially and in soft skills over the degree years still sticks with me and certainly supports my current work and interactions in my industry.
Response: Hi Heath, many thanks for your thorough review. We're pleased to read you enjoyed studying with our tutors, as well as benefitted and well understood our learning approach. Itamar Cohen: dBs was the perfect size for me - people get to know each other with the slightest effort. The staff were very qualified, helpful, and approachable, despite the fact that many of them were, in fact, English ;) I earned there some tools I use daily ever since, and made connections that go with me to this day. The program is what you make of it - the more you engage, the more you’ll learn.
Response: Thanks for your review, we're glad to hear you connected with the community while with us :) If you could let us know which programme you took we'd pass on your message to the tutors who always welcome any feedback. Kind regards!

Pentaprisma: Berlin Photo Workshops: what do users think?

Lex On The Road: I enjoyed my workshop with Guillermo. I felt like I learnt a lot in a short space of time and now have more knowledge and confidence to pursue my photography interest further. Thank you.
Response: Thank you Alexis and keep it up!!! :)

Tomás Fonseca: We had a lesson with Guillermo! The content and experience was completely adapted to our expectations and learning goals. Great fun and a time well spent! 100% recommended
Response: So nice to read this Tomás. Glad to hear you guys enjoyed the workshop too!!!

Kari Hatcher: I really enjoyed the Basic Photography class that I took over two weekends. Tomas was a really fantastic instructor and he gave a great overview of photography basics. I liked the mix of lecture and practical experience in his courses. We reviewed the theory first, practiced what we had just learned and then reviewed all of our photos together. I thought this was a great way to learn and improve my photography skills. We also visited four different and interesting locations that I was not familiar with, even after a year living in Berlin. I would definitely recommend this course and I may take more with Tomas in the future.
Response: Thank you so much Kari! Looking forward to having you again in one of our courses. ^_^

Liis K.: My experience with participating in the Pentaprisma photo course in Berlin last summer was simply wonderful! A big thanks to my FIRST official photography teacher Tomas! I enjoyed very much the thorough theoretical structure of the lessons as well as the scenic locations chosen for the shoots around the city. It was a really great way to meet fellow photography enthusiasts as well as to get to know to the city with completely new eyes! I look forward to participating in some of the more advanced level courses. Thanks again, Tomas! I recommend your course warmly!
Response: Thank you Liis! Really looking forward to having you around again. We did have a good time, didn't we? :)

Matteo Andreani: I was given a 9-hours Pentaprisma workshop voucher by my girlfriend. I practice photography for 10 years, but not professionally. I previously attended "advanced" group workshops and often I went home with little new knowledge in my pocket - mostly because I already owned the specific technical skills that we were taught. Even if I knew this would have been a different experience (a one-to-one, tailored workshop), I thought 9 hours would have been too many and I was scared to necessarily go through the knowledge I already owned. Instead, even before starting the first session, I was asked a small portfolio. This helped Thomas and Guillermo understanding how I could get the best out of the 9 hours workshop. Guillermo, the teacher based in Berlin, helped me improving exactly where I was still sometimes failing: being a critical photographer, before and after a shot was taken. He also helped me critically analyzing and selecting my best shots among the tens of thousands of pictures I had taken in the past years. He patiently and critically analyzed a 100-picture selection I did for the last session (a hell of a job, for both!). He finally helped me understand what photography means for me. I am very grateful to my girlfriend for giving me the opportunity to meet Guillermo. All the best to Pentaprisma team!
Response: THANK YOU Matteo for your kind words and for letting us be part of your journey. Please keep up with photography, you have a lot yet to say.

Carly Abramovitz: I really enjoyed the Pentaprisma experience. Tomás is a not only knowledgeable about the technical aspects of photography, he is also an artist, which means you learn a lot about composition and it really helps to train your eye. He is a great teacher because he is fun and light-hearted so even the biggest beginner will feel comfortable. An added bonus of the course is getting to explore some interesting places in Berlin and seeing familiar places with a fresh perspective. For me, the best part of the course was the little exercises he sent us out on because we could then go out and practice what we were taught and get immediate feedback. Overall it was a very rewarding experience!
Response: Uauh Carly... so happy to read you enjoyed it so much. :D Hope you've gone on photographing. Photography is a fascinating journey!!!

Timothy Olcott: What a great experience! I scheduled 2-three hour workshops during a recent trip to Berlin; each day, I met Guillermo at a coffee shop and we discussed composition on one day and camera settings on another. Afterwards, we walked to different sites for instruction in the field. After the workshops, I continued to think about the techniques Guillermo and I discussed, and I believe the workshops increased my skills as a photographer.
Response: Oh yesss! There's nothing better than seeing you've helped someone to grow a little bit. Thank you Tim! Enjoy your journey. :)
