EMS - Electronic Music School: what do users think?

Nuno Rocha: Money bye bye Beginners music production course was a failure. Administrative errors and bad communication style led to misunderstandings, disagreements, and lost motivation. In the moment I wanted to jump out, oh surprise, NO MONEY BACK. NO MONEY BACK is a failsafe for bad service. The choice for this school as I now see, was based on incomplete information. There are plenty of experienced producers offering private lessons both offline and online, and after some simple calculations and the fact that a dedicated teacher will bring you much more, what you get at EMS is not worth the price.

Darío Dornel: I have taken a six-month course in Music Production, and I feel delighted with the experience. I think I have learned many things and improved my skills as a producer. The teachers are very professional, and they genuinely care about the students. The whole crew at EMS is really nice. The course is very well organized and covers a lot of different topics. The students in my group were also very friendly. We have shared opinions, recommendations, etc., about our own music and helped each other improve and enjoy the learning process. I would definitely take another course at EMS and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn Music Production, no matter if they have previous knowledge or not.

Patricio Roca Villalba: I've went for the workshop "DJ WEEK" in Berlin and I've met excellent artists and professionals who thaught me new techniques. Really happy to have found this school!

Andrea Cossu: After my degree I obtained a scholarship and have been given the opportunity to spend several months at the EMS Berlin. My artistic and organizational talents have been given full confidence and value. The atmosphere inside is rich with creativity and the staff/family is very friendly. The courses are structured in a very linear way, there are various levels, from beginner to expert, I have participated in some of these, first as observing student, later as coaching assistant. From my experience I recommend the school to beginners as also skilled producers, there is always space to improve. What I really like, is the possibility for students, to use the studio for free to practice DJing!

Julie Marie: Took the 6 month beginner production course and loved it. Very professional and flexible staff, most of it took part online because of Covid. Great classes and group, very motivating environment. Safe space to show your work and receive honest and constructive feedback. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to make music with Ableton!

Maria Canas: EMS is a great school if you are looking to learn the skills with nice and passionate DJs. The classes are helpful and the place is really nice. Thank you EMS!!

Vusal Gafarov: Positive: Professionalism, Quality, ValueNice, friendly and supportive team, effective teaching methods, inspiring environment, good and flexible organisation. !!! Strongly recommend! Btw, EMS has a sweet canine team member too...

Tilo: I attended the EMP beginner course in the EMS in 2020 and the EMP advanced course in 2022. First of all, of course, I took the well-known way via Youtube, but somehow I didn't get any structure, i.e. in my knowledge or better not-knowledge. Then I took a few private lessons here and there, Ableton can't be that difficult........As mentioned above, I ended up in the EMS and that was good and it was one thing above all: it was fun . To meet up with other fellow human beings who have the same interest, to have some nerd talk and to try it out. The teachers are all very competent, DJ and/or produce music themselves, are very patient and, if necessary, explain the 100th time what was not understood or if connections are not entirely clear. Jeyenne and his team are always available for questions of all kinds. The courses were very valuable for me, even if I no longer become a professional music producer and see it more as a leisure activity. All in all, a more than good start that I wouldn't want to miss anymore. Thank you EMS!

David P: I attended the 6-month producer course (beginners) in Berlin. The school and lecturers are all super competent and friendly. We also had a cool community among the students that continues. I have made significant progress with my productions, especially through continuous learning over half a year, and I warmly recommend the course! I will definitely add one or the other course / workshop. It was fun, thank you very much for that :-)

Mat F: Best investment of my life! At the EMS I learned to develop a sensitivity for music. I used to have this "feeling" for good or bad tracks when listening to music. Today I can say quite exactly why a track is good or bad. I can now judge the individual instruments, their processing with effects and, above all, their interaction with each other. It's great fun, nobody can take that away from me and of course it helps when producing my own tracks. Technically, the EMS is equipped with modern studio equipment, which I was also able to base my own purchase decisions on. The didactic concept is quite practically oriented. Compared to studying, the EMS is less dry. You don't have to memorize scores now. Nevertheless, it is important that a theoretical basis is conveyed. The handouts help to review the subject matter, e.g. on harmony. (I'm always surprised how many harmonies there are in some techno tracks). And then there was the voluntary homework. I can only recommend repeating what you have learned in the lesson at home. That's a much better way to keep it. In the next week you can play your tracks from home and get direct feedback from the pros. Organizationally, you can rely on the people from the EMS: Because of Corona, my course has unfortunately shrunk quite a bit in terms of the number of participants. In the meantime I was even the only student. In terms of spatial guidance, it would have been possible to combine my course with another course that wasn't as advanced with the material. In this way, the management of the EMS could have saved the hours for a lecturer. But they kept their word and stayed the course. This enabled me to complete the course (apart from the lockdown) in the agreed time. Hats off and big respect for that! <3 Perhaps a word about myself: When I'm not making music, I'm an IT business consultant specializing in financial accounting software. Before EMS I had a lot of contact with music. Mainly through club dancing and small gigs with my former garage band (singers and harmonica players). I'm into acid techno, industrial and EBM. In short: The courses at the EMS are worth the money!

Polonum Music Production Lab: what do users think?

Kirsten Brown: Filip is a fantastic teacher and really friendly guy with great expertise. His passion for teaching music production and sharing his knowledge makes learning from him really fun and engaging. I really appreciated how much Filip listened to and identified with students' level and interests, rather than just reading from a strict or dry curriculum. The interactive learning experience and hands-on approach where your teacher connects with you on a personal level enables you get so much more out of the content and be even more motivated. I would highly recommend his courses to anyone who is looking for music production courses in Berlin. Thanks Filip! 🙏❤️

Kamil Wierzbowski: Highlight of my staying in Berlin was being able to have a music production lessons with Pysh. His passion and commitment made me feel that I want to begin my journey with music. His live improvisation in his studio made me speechless. What a vibe!! Apart from his talent (hard work) Filip is an amazing guy and since we met we are in touch and he s always keen to give me some help, advice and tips with my very first tracks (which I belive must be painful 😩) Thanks Pysh!! 🙏

Ministry of Mixing: what do users think?

Yamina Vetter: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueWe had a wonderful introduction to deejaying - thank you Chris! With much knowledge, fun stories and easy to get techniques Chis showed us how to use a DJ controller and. made us understand the basic structure of music. All in only 90 minutes! We learned so much and will definitely come back. High recommendation to everyone!

Иван Иванов: Best Dj school, very friendly atmosphere, a lot of attention from teachers. These guys really love what they do and try their best to teach you. Classes also in English. Very good equipment, clean and cozy rooms. Отличная школа, всем советую!!! Ребята учат от всего сердца)))

Tanja Vojkic: The big different of being student and part of a great team; always open door philosophy, tons of gigs, very useful advice paired with a huge bunch of patience ☺️ Place full of joy and kindness. For newbies in music or town a recommendation

Tele Path tee: I've always been interested in dj'ing and with M.O.M. and bc of the high-energy mentors, I feel my sessions are getting better & better. Highly recommended if you're serious!

The Man with no Face: Great Place to learn how to dj and produce music. classes in english available. Danny ans Chris are great people <3

Christiane Günther: Just TOP! I learned how to DJ from my super nice and competent teacher Danny. He is extremely patient and manages to infect people with his passion. I was able to work with high-quality equipment and continue to develop my skills. In the meantime I was able to play a few gigs. Anyone considering starting DJing should take a taster session at this school. Highly Recommended!
Response: We are very happy about that, thank you 💙

Alex klein: Super contact with Danny and Christian are very passionate and competent musicians, endowed with great kindness. During my stay in Berlin where I worked with them they took me to lots of places related to the electronic music scene in Berlin, this was really super nice of them, in short I highly recommend if you want to get started or improve your skills in djing and music production.
Response: 💙

vik. p.: What a cool experience! Totally at eye level, with contagious enthusiasm and a lot of patience. professional at work. We will be back! Thank you Danny!
Response: We are very happy about that 🎶💚

J. Schulz: Very nice and experienced DJ's. Here you are in good hands.

Cora Mohr: At first I found the school and Christian very likeable. However, we had made a special contractual arrangement towards the end, which unfortunately was not fulfilled. I only received an answer to my messages after I had asked several times and my last message was not answered at all, even though I still had several hours open. This led to me enrolling in another music production school, which I wish I had done from the start... disappointing!
Response: Unfortunately, the open invoice was no longer paid beforehand, so that we were no longer willing to respond to special requests. We have refrained from a collection request.

343 Labs: what do users think?

Saba Noneshvili: Very good teachers. Very nice people. Location very easy to reach. The courses are not too long, so no visa needed it's bit more than one month and the classes are usually later in the evening so it's possible to do other stuff to during the day. One of the best options if you want to learn music production or mixing in short time from essentials to advance and meet new cool people 🤘🤘

Hellmuth Fabian: I did a mixing and mastering course with 343 labs and it really got me going in the field. I learned from two audio engineers, who really know their profession and how to teach it, which is a rare combination that is not to be taken for granted. Very friendly and motivated. I now mixed and mastered my first own EP and I am happy with my first piece of work. If you take a course, try to bring some extra time to apply what you learned at home between the sessions in order to get the most out of the courses. Will be intense, but worth it.

Marko Kivirand: Very practical course ("Ableton Live: Produce Your First Track course"), and awsome teacher – Peter Trimbacher!

Marrit Teirlinck: I have already completed 3 courses at 343 labs Berlin and absolutely love it. The classes are interactive with lots of feedback on your own tracks and a great atmosphere. The teachers are really super good at teaching and are also great producers themselves. Each course has a set of topics to teach that will help you get ahead with your own track. Can highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn music production in a structured way.
Response: Thank you so much Marrit! It's great having you as a student!

Magali Matzner: I don’t know what to say beside that I’m incredibly happy and grateful of having pushed open the door of 343 Labs in Berlin, where everyone is welcomed in the 343 Labs family, no matter its music genre, style, culture etc. The courses are highly professional and are really well comprehensible for beginners and advanced people. The instructors are kind and patient, always open to help, and push yourself further. It’s beautiful how much all people connect, motivate and inspire each other, and that beyond the courses. For sure, if you bring the dedication, it can become life changing. Thank you for everything !!! Magali
Response: Thank you so much for the kind words Meggy! It has been a real pleasure having you at 343 Labs!

Micah McGee: Had an amazing experience tuning in for the SYNC event. Loved seeing people from all over the world programmed out in a seamless virtual experience. All of the performers and presenters were so inspiring. I left feeling refreshed and ready to create. Thank you!

Laura Hemus: 3 courses in and LOVING it. Brilliant, upbeat teachers, enthusiastic about sharing knowledge. Max also facilitates tons of other opportunities (workshops, networking, competitions) IRL or via 343 STUDIO if/when you're not in Berlin or NY.
Response: Thanks Laura, great to have you as a part of our creative community!

Arielle Fischer: Really great class to learn more about in depth music theory (especially surrounding chords)! Really complimented modules Ableton 01 and 02. Big thanks to the 343 team for this really rewarding experience :)

Mohamed Said: I produced my first track in 3 months ✌🏻 Instructors are really good, very helpful and professional. They know the music and the technicalities behind it. The place was cool and equipped with everything I needed. I finished one course there and I’m definitely going back for another advanced class. Highly recommended.
Response: Thanks so much Mohammed! We're glad you had a great experience and your track sounded awesome! Looking forward to having you back.

Caspar Huisman: Super that the school is now in Berlin. During Corona I did the online courses from the NY school, but now that it's in my hometown I am following new classes here. The atmosphere, the teachers and fellow class mates are amazing. Definitely recommend following any course here. Also their location is perfectly situated in Berlin.
Response: Thanks Caspar, it was great having you in class and we’re glad you’re enjoying our berlin location :)

Catalyst - Institute for Creative Arts and Technology: what do users think?

Mona Jain: My son studies in catalyst and I can see in one year of the programme his skill has multiplied manifold . It’s a great environment and student friendly institute which encourages original thinking . Professors are extremely helpful and themselves experts on their field of music .
Response: Hi Mona - thank you for the kind words. We’re pleased your son has benefited from our practice-based approach to learning with us. We will pass on your kind words to you son’s teachers.

Sylvia Gozdek: I took the 4-week Filmmaking short course over the summer in 2020 and had an incredible time. Together with my classmates, we created 11 films together! This meant I played through quite a lot of the different roles on the 6 sets I was on... It really is amazing how much ground we covered. From lighting and camera, to script writing and directing, through to editing and screening. This course is perfect for an ambitious beginner like me or even someone who has a bit of experience and is looking for a fast paced challenge.
Response: Thank you for sharing Sylvia, we encourage you to keep up this rhythm and look forward to following your creative projects!

Heath B: Despite being the in the first degree program at dbs Berlin, and the humble campus we had in comparison today, I cannot say anything negative about this institution. The degree program was aimed at students seeking a complete education preparing us for our final year’s thesis. Each subject was taught from simple to more complex, and understandably there may be some with more experience than others, but reinforcing the basics is essential. The support I got from all tutors was excellent and inspired passion to learn and grow. Following the degree, I was able to work as a freelancer, delivering high quality work to a variety of clients. Despite not currently working in music, what I learned socially and in soft skills over the degree years still sticks with me and certainly supports my current work and interactions in my industry.
Response: Hi Heath, many thanks for your thorough review. We're pleased to read you enjoyed studying with our tutors, as well as benefitted and well understood our learning approach. We'd love to stay in touch and hear how you evolve in your career and wish you the very best for a successful future in the fields you pursue. Kind regards!

itay duer: I just finished the first year of the electronic music production course and came out pretty disappointed. The school is most fitted in my opinion for beginners. The subjects taught are very basic and there is no in depth knowledge about anything. The teachers have told us multiple times that if we want to know something specific we should look it up on YouTube. So this meant that none of the things I wanted to learn were taught at the school. Another thing that bothered me was that there wasn't a division of the students based on their levels, this is probably why the studies aren't that in depth. Also a sneaky trick that they do is promise in their website(FAQ) 12 hours of 'supported time on campus' which means nothing and doesn't actually happen. The 12 hours of lessons that you actually have are often wasted on irrelevant subject, a few out of many examples: Music theory - I knew more than the teacher. Development - unorganized lessons talking about the philosophy of music that could have been done well but missed the point. The teacher was more about showing how smart he is over actually listening to what the students have to say and no meaningful feedback was given for the students. Music industry - could be useful but not what I signed up to study and not what I was looking for. Live performance - also a nice idea but the lessons where really poorly organized . No real knowledge was given about different styles or ways of performance, it was 4 hours a week which were usually quite boring and non productive. At best you would spend 10 minutes performing, get a bit of feedback, watch your classmates perform and waste the remaining 2 hours of the class. The reason I left 2 stars is because the equipment and studios are really good, though you can only book them in advance for 3 hours a week. You can come spontaneously and might have a room that you can book for 2 hours at a time. If you want easy-going studies and good studios I would recommend this school but if you want to learn intensively and professionally this is not the place for you. Thanks for reading, have a nice day.
Response: Dear Itay We’re sorry to read you were unhappy with aspects of our electronic music production course. Thank you for taking time to provide details of why it didn’t work for you personally. Thank you also for acknowledging the quality of our facilities and spaces. We appreciate any feedback we get however it is disappointing that you didn’t mention this whilst you were attending the course. This would have given us a chance to explain in more depth the innovative thinking behind the design of our learning experiences. If you're still in Berlin please don’t hesitate to come and chat with one of the members of the learning team. The first year EMP course develops foundational skills in the subject area regardless of your level of previous experience. Our learning methodology is designed to provide an individual pathway for each student based on where they are on their own learning curve together with their specific interests and needs. This is one of the reasons why we positively encourage the use of online tools as additional resources - there’s a lot of valuable information out there that can be studied in parallel that shouldn’t take up practical classroom time. Electronic music production is a broad area of study and it is normal that our students will have different areas of specialised interest which our tutors will then support. The 12 hours of teaching hours are divided into approximately 8 hours of practical workshops e.g. recording, synthesis, audio production etc. and 4 hours of coaching and development sessions which support your long term development as an artist/creative practitioner, your creative production skills and your critical thinking. Our school is following a progressive educational model. Practice-based, hands on learning is highly project based and reliant on each student’s individual endeavour. It is designed to help each student carve their own unique artistic path and develop their own vision and approach in the discipline of their choice. Our learning approach is not focused on the amount of “information” one learns, it’s about the development of key hard and soft skills required to continue developing a career in the long term. Everyone can access learning tools online, but learning how to navigate and grow within an industry takes another set of skills that need practical development. Other more traditional schools will give you the facts and information you need to produce great music with the resources and technology we have nowadays. We aim to give students something that will last longer. We want our students to have the ability to think critically and know how to adapt their skills in an ever-evolving industry and still feel confident that they can perform and be at the forefront of change as it happens. From our side, we take your feedback as motivation to speak more loudly and passionately about our teaching method. We use this teaching method because we think it provides for far more profound and long lasting results than the simple passing of information. We believe that progressive education benefits everyone though we understand that some people come with different expectations of what a learning experience should be. Thanks for your feedback; we hope that you stay close to the community. We also hope you’ve had valuable experiences and have met some amazing people whilst with us. Please feel free to come by some day.

Brenda Yong: Programme with great value! I signed up for dBs Film certificate last year and I can honestly say this is a great programme for people that want to get a jumpstart on film-making. Before I came to dBs, I had little to none technical knowledge about film-making and I didn’t know where to start on my own. I didn’t know where I could assemble a crew to film a passion project and I didn't know where I could source film equipment. dBs created a space for me to hone my craft and provided feedback for every project I made . The tutors are open to new suggestions and they are dedicated in helping you improve. If you sign up for this course, make sure you use the resources offered, ask the tutor for advice, assemble a crew amongst your peers and make films! My year at dBs was insightful and nothing short of phenomenal.
Response: Thanks so much Brenda for your review. We're pleased to read that you made the most out of our 1-year film production course and the practice-packed curriculum paid off for you. Do feel free to let us know if you missed anything in particular as that also helps us learn and improve from our side. Wishing you a lot of healthy filmmaking experiences to come! Please stay in touch, we'd love to hear how you career continues to develop!!

Marco Santucci: I came here unsure of what I wanted from this experience. They give you all the tools and freedom to make your own path. I really flourished in this environment and was able to develope the beginning of what is so far a successful career in soundtrack music. If you're motivated here you will make something of yourself and dbs still helps me a year after graduation.
Response: Thanks for your kind note Marco :) We also love how you've grown into this team, it's a real pleasure to work with you and to also witness how you continue to launch your career. Thanks for supporting the family!

Itamar Cohen: dBs was the perfect size for me - people get to know each other with the slightest effort. The staff were very qualified, helpful, and approachable, despite the fact that many of them were, in fact, English ;) I earned there some tools I use daily ever since, and made connections that go with me to this day. The program is what you make of it - the more you engage, the more you’ll learn.
Response: Thanks for your review, we're glad to hear you connected with the community while with us :) If you could let us know which programme you took we'd pass on your message to the tutors who always welcome any feedback. Kind regards!

Nicolas Avila Rodriguez: Dbs music berlin is a great place to make contacts advance in your music/film career and learn from some impressive tutors! With dedication and passion you can learn everything you need if you put the energy on it.
Response: Thanks Nicolas for the positive note :) We're proud of the great community we have here thanks to everyone's pro-activism and dedication to doing what they love.

SG Strike: Probably the best and nicest techs and staff all around. Met some of the coolest and most inspiring people there and learnt A LOT! Would recommend it to people who want to be creatively involved in music production, or want to improve their musical artistic views and visions. (got pizza for writing a possitive review)
Response: Thanks for this review, the techs will be happy to read this. Hope the pizza was tasty ;-)

Jayden Bailey: Film student here: Amazing tutors, admin stuff great people. Super hands on workshops and learn by doing film making, has led to amazing experiences with classmates. Highly recommend. PS amazing location and facilities 🧡

SAE Institute Berlin: what do users think?

Berlin TV: I can’t recommend. Specifically game art. You can easily have a master online course by important people from industry and learn better any tool you need instead of giving money to this school. It is more than a exercise place with young students like you probably. You can barely have professional teachers and classes. Even if corona is over they are still making the lectures online. You can’t practice what you learn and ask your questions. I would recommend a few master online courses instead. The management change after corona and the quality of education got worse. Even if specifically people in game art are trying to do the good work, I think there are management problems at school. They don’t pay attention good quality, the main problem is online classes are not effective and the tutorials in YouTube are helping me unfortunately more.

quick: We had an absolutely wonderful week at SAE Institute! We got to work with HDRI and Greenscreen, it was a blast!Definitely worth looking out for!

Andreas Sørensen: Had an exchange with SAE, originally studying at 3D college, but deffinately enjoyed my experiences with SAE even if it was only for a very short week. :)

Benedikt B. Bagger: Good private university with media/entertainment focus.

Bendor Blackbard: Mind blowing 🤯💖

Leonardo Nerini: It was a great experience here! Amazing environment!

Federico De Nicola: Best audio engineering school in berlin.

Blessed: Did my Bachelor in Audio Production here. Nice university with good lecturers and fair processes. If you get involved, you can learn a lot here and get good support when looking for a job.

Alles Geben: Scores for absentee exams due to illness will be graded with a grade of 6 instead of no grade. Unfair in my opinion, there is no such thing anywhere, the answer to that, you can't do anything about it. I agree with the other bad reviews on this. 😂
Response: Hello "Give everything", As with other universities, schools and training institutions, the following uniform regulation applies to the SAE institutes (Europe-wide): Anyone who does not show up for the exam, for whatever reason, must contact the head of the department in advance and submit a sick note within three working days. If the notification of illness is received on time, the student will be given a new date and the examination will be scored normally. If no sick leave is given or if we arrive too late, the exam will be awarded 20 Middlesex points (grade 6). After that, the student gets a new date for the second attempt, which is then compensated for in terms of grades.

Bastian Schneider: I was completely satisfied with everything at SAE during my training. The quality of the teaching was always okay, there is a lot of equipment in all areas and the support concept cannot be compared to any other media school in Berlin. In addition, the opening times during which care is offered are simply great.
