Beaches by the lake: the classic destinations of Berliners
Berlin is obviously not associated with a seaside holiday. Yet there are many "urban surrogates" to the classic beaches: you can choose, for example, to reach one of the lakes around the city.

photo via berlin1.de A beach well known and loved by Berliners. It is located west of the Mitte district and is easily accessible by tram (M13, 50) to the Virchow-Klinikum stop, from here it is a 10-minute walk. Or by bus 106 to the Sylter Straße stop, continuing for a while on foot.
La Sandy beach of over 700 meters is well equipped.
With € 5,50 admission (children up to 3 years free; reduced for students and Berlin Pass holders: € 3) you will have:

- an area with slides and a playground for children
- sports fields
Very popular with groups of young people on weekends, the beach is instead much quieter and ad hoc for families during the rest of the week. There is also a nudist area at the left end of the beach.

One of the most classic Sunday destinations for Berliners and among the largest man-made beaches in Europe. You can get there by S-Bahn (S1, S7 S-Bhf) to Nikolassee station. Continue for about ten minutes on foot through a pine forest that leads to the beach.
This Strandbad it is particularly popular with young couples and groups of friends who like to meet here to sunbathe or practice water sports. An area of beach is dedicated to the Frei Korper Kultur, the practice of nudism.
- Rent a "Strandkörbe" for € 5,50 (the wicker beach chair with cover is the German alternative to umbrellas).
There is also no shortage of places to eat: you can be satisfied with beach bar or you can opt for one of the many restaurants overlooking the lake.

Badeschiff Arena Berlin

A wooden walkway connects the large swimming pool floating on the river to the area with sun loungers and deck chairs where guests can play beach volleyball and sunbathe on the fine sand, enjoying a panoramic view of the city center. The bar offers a variety of summer cocktails and a barbecue for those who want to stop and eat. For children, there is a special area where they can build sand castles and play in their swimming pool. Badeschiff Arena Berlin is located in the immediate vicinity of the Treptower Park.

From May 1st, every day from 8:00 to 22:00 (the swimming pool), until 23:00 (the beach). Closed on public holidays.
Capital Beach Berlin
Deck chairs, a cocktail bar and background chillout music, in a very central location close to the Spree river, a few steps from the Hauptbahnhof station and the government district (Regierungsviertel). A place Berliners love to hang out with - many drop in on their lunch break for relax in a deck chair with snacks and beer.
This Berlin summer location is within walking distance of the Tiergarten.
Open every day from 10am to 00pm. The drink is on payment; deckchairs are free until exhaustion.
