Fotokurse - Berlin School of Photography: what do users think?

Rob Murray: My partner and I did the Level 1 course with Alberto and really enjoyed the course and our day! Alberto was a professional and thorough teacher while still leaving lots of time to ask questions and get creative. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone hoping to learn more about their camera and start to embark on their first steps to becoming a better photographer.

Milica Ilic: I had a photo tour with Alberto and it was really nice! Alberto was really patient and taught us some cool tips and tricks :D The tour was almost 3 hours, and I really enjoyed it.

Henriette de Wit: I highly recommend the Forest Photography course to anyone who wants to learn more about photography and be closer to nature. Bettina is very inspiring, full of interesting stories and a skilled photographer. She hosted us in an idyllic setting, thought us the most important photography techniques and guided us on a forest bathing to awaken our senses and creativity before we could wander off on our own to put all that we learned into practise. We concluded the day with soup and cake and reviewing the photos that we took that day. For me it was an amazing experience.

Tony Costanzo: A big thank you to the wonderful guys at Berlin School of Photography and especially Bettina for the fantastic phototours of Berlin I attended when I visited Berlin. I did the Big 5 and the Street Art tours which were a perfect introduction to the city. I was in town on business and did not have a lot of free time. Being an enthusiast photographer I was keen to capture some special photos during my all too brief visit. Bettina’s Big 5 tour was a perfect and efficient way to see some Berlin highlights and her great eye and knowledge of the city helped me get some of my most favourite photos I have ever taken. She challenged me to use different perspectives and techniques for what could easily have been routine snapshots. My long exposure ground shot of the pretzel man at Brandenburg Gate is one of my most prized photos! The street art tour around the East Side gallery area was also a wonderful experience with some really fun and memorable photos. Thank you Berlin School of Photography! I recommend these tours to anyone visiting Berlin no matter how long your stay! Images posted on instagram @gvairo1

Yongmin Hwang: Bettina was a very approachable teacher, and the group had a lot of fun! Would recommend!

jess pirani: It was a pleasure meeting Bettina. She is super friendly and taught me a lot of interesting things during our class. I came back home feeling really inspired to keep going. I highly recommend the school.

Jan Meemken: The time at Berlin School of Pgotography was just a big pleasure! Learning from professional trainer, meeting cool people from all over the world in an awesome city! Just ❤️ the whole experiences! See u next time in BERLIN 🐻

Jaco Naude: They worked out a Photography Course specificly for our Needs.Very 'Hands on' Training and Workshops. They came to our Office, great service and very professional. Highly recommended!

isis Kuaygarond (XxIsisxX): I had so much fun learning how to use my camera properly. Very well explained with a lot of practical exercises !! I would 100% recommend this course if you’re wanting to learn photography!

International Photography School: what do users think?

Jérôme Jossin: Really recommending this school if you want to upskill yourself in photography. Really enjoyed the 3-month course I did in studio photography! I loved the mix of theory and practice, the quality of our lecturers, the visits of museums and studios, and the pratical tips I have gained during the different classes. On top of that, the director of the school is fantastic. Not only he is super experienced and friendly, he was always gving honest feedback to help sharpen my skills.

Uliana Malinoŭskaya: I’ve attended 3-months basic course (studio & staged photography) at IPS. I highly recommend this school and basic courses for beginner photographers. The teachers have a lot of knowledge and are very encouraging. The classes vary with theory and practice.

Caoimhe Sweeney: We booked a private workshop with IPSB to teach our marketing team how to bring our portrait photography inhouse. In only two 3 hour workshops we learned so much. Marc was a fantastic teacher and we really enjoyed the classes. Booking a private workshop is a great idea for anyone looking to save their business high outsourcing fees. I would definitely recommend this school and their workshops to anyone interested!

Berylhyyy: I joined the weekend “Fashion and Portraiture Lighting” workshop, the course covered more than just lighting, it helps student like me to find the right direction whoever wants to develop themselves in photography, I highly recommend the course.

Charlotte Clemensen: IPS is the place to go if you want to be part of an inspiring and creative community. A community where you can explore the opportunities of the photography world and find your own path!

Enrique R. Aguilar: The courses taught at the school are very good. The teachers are highly trained and encourage the student to develop their skills as a photographer. There is a great working material both technical and theoretical. The students are also very interesting and contribute a lot to the conversations in class. The school encourage the use of photobooks as a way of learning from other photographers. For me it is important to see different points of view and having inspiration from not only photography but other topics as well. I recommend it if you are interested in training as a photographer.

Celine Chappert: A well-rounded curriculum on the world of studio & staged photography delivered by a versatile group of working professionals from various fields in the industry. I really enjoyed this course !

Ivanna Gomez: It was a pleasure to learn from Marc! It was practical and so insightful. I really enjoyed the level of detail, depth and the chance to explore various techniques. Thank again :)

H B: The IPS offers an education in photography second to none in Berlin. You are taught by industry experts and artisans on a broad range range of topics including analog photography, history & theory, studio & lighting and much more. The classroom environment is a great balance of critical feedback as well as encouragement and inspiration that really works to develop your skills and insight as a photographer. I have learnt so much in my two terms at IPS and have become a much better photographer for it - looking forward to learning more in the future and I really recommend to anyone looking to learn more about photography or become a better photographer.

New School of Photography Berlin: what do users think?

Max Sprott: I’ve been a student at Neue Schule for 2 years. This school has helped me to find myself as a photographer. I owe a lot to the teachers of this school. Very selfless people. The teachers at this School are unparalleled and you will not find others like them at other Photo schools in Berlin. Students that tend to be disappointed at the school or don’t enjoy it are generally those that can’t push themselves. This school is here to pull the most out of you and you have to be prepared to work for that, many think it’s given to them. We are a big family at our school. If that speaks to you come see our facilities and darkrooms or just say hello:)

frauke decoodt: Before you apply maybe ask them for their study plan, and how and what they intend to teach you, achieve a learning curve that gets you from point A to B. Make sure this learning plan is in the contract, dont pay large amount all at once so in case they do not comply you do not loose all your money. Make sure the contract is as detailled as possible about hours, locations, teachers, use of facilities . .... I appreciate they had complications because of covid and tried to make up with access to the school after the term ended. But still a very overpriced course for the content we got.

Shanelle de Melo: I am currently a student at the Neue Schule Für Fotografie and words cannot express the level of disappointment I feel towards this school. The education of myself and fellow classmates has been severely compromised by the poor choices made by the board. They do not care about the well-being of their students and have shown a huge lack of respect and morality in their actions. I cannot stress enough that I do not recommend this school to anyone!

Jakob Wierzba: The education I have received here served me more than my run at a "renowned fine arts academy". Felt more personal + dedicated teachers.

Mateo Cidrás: (Course in English) I did the first semester in this school, very disappointed and not recommended at all. Very bad organization, very few classes, very bad experience. Of course I will not continue the following semester.

Kate Demchenko-Zalvovska: Fine place, but not the most interesting and expressive

Carys: I had an awful experience with this school

PhotoWerkBerlin: what do users think?

Bognar Zsuzsanna: Apart from the unique photography workshops fascinating exhibitions are organised by PhotoWerk at the Kommunale Galerie, which are worth to visit.

Giulia Canu: you should check out the photo exhibitions they organize at Kommunale Galerie Berlin in the Projektraum!

Karolin: In Berlin certainly the highest quality provider of photo workshops. Varied, exciting program for photography-loving laymen with previous knowledge. There are even workshops for secondary school classes, e.g. in the former Stasi prison Berlin-Hohenschönhausen. The focus is on artistic photography, many lecturers have studied art.

Moritz Draheim: Serious and competent workshop platform for semi- to full-professional photographers with the gift of presenting really special places, motifs and photo artists in Berlin for their own seminars.

m kaiser: Highly recommended workshops! Balanced ratio of theory, in-depth study and practice. Well-founded, individual and efficient discussion of the workshop work.

Silvia Iessi: Interesting and well-structured workshops and really prepared teachers. Recommended!

Heidi Scherm: great workshop on instagram / facebook: super speaker, well compressed information, very helpful!

Martin U Waltz Photography: what do users think?

Leo Muckley: I did a full-day workshop with Martin in Berlin which involved an initial portfolio review, followed by a few hours shooting some images on the streets and then ended the day with another review of the images taken that day. I received constructive feedback on my images and some helpful tips shooting on the streets, information which I found very beneficial for improving my photography. Martin was also very friendly and more than happy to help me, providing recommendations for the duration of my time in Berlin. Overall I would highly recommend this workshop to anybody who would like to improve their street photography as Martin is a very experienced photographer and a great teacher. Thanks again, Martin!

John McMillan: Intelligent, generous, friendly, and engaging—Martin is an excellent teacher and an outstanding photographer. I highly recommend his solo workshop. He went out of his way to tailor the instruction and experience to my needs and interests. I worked with him for two consecutive days, a format I recommend as it allowed sufficient time for shooting, as well as time for guided practice and post-shoot feedback. Incidentally, the workshop was also an excellent way to see Berlin. Besides being a great street photography teacher, he also knows his city inside and out. 10 out of 10.

peter merry: Martin is great photographer and workshop leader. I really enjoyed our time together. We spent 2 street photography sessions with Martin (one evening and one afternoon) and his help and ideas were just what I was looking for. The image critique was extremely helpful with good insight and constructive help with shooting and editing. I would highly recommend Martin. He made me feel at home and inspired in an exciting city. Thank you!

Paweł Troć: Martin is great teacher, not only his skills as photografer are amazing he also is able to transfer his knowledge in easy and productive way. Our 6h workshop was spot on, i learned a lot.

Cary Schatz: Working with Martin was a great experience. He takes time to talk about your current work in an honest and constructive way. He manages to show you how to improve your photography no matter what level you are at, whether you are new to street photography or if you have been doing it for years. During the day he spends one on one time to give you some first hand pointers. I highly recommend this workshop.

Joerg Rockenberger: Martin’s one day photo workshop is an intense exercise with great learning opportunities. First, the initial portfolio review highlights areas for improvement. Then, photographing in the streets of Berlin offers the opportunity to practice the lessons from the morning while Martin continues his coaching. After the tour, you’re asked to curate and edit the photographs taken earlier, and provide the best 5 for further critique. You have about 45 mins for that... :) Martin’s feedback is direct but constructive and polite. There is no sugar coating but also no putting down your work. He shares his experience and knowledge, as a photographer but also as a teacher, freely and without arrogance. Beyond the photo critiques and in-field coaching, there is also the opportunity to ask wide-ranging questions, from his favorite photographers to the difference between travel and street photography, and much more. This workshop is a very valuable and pleasant experience for anyone interested in improving their work. Highly recommended.

jmbara2: I recently travelled to Berlin for some street photography and signed up for Martin’s weekend workshop as I very much liked what I saw in Martin’s photography. I also wanted to use the workshop as an intro to Berlin’s for a few more days of street photography on my own after the workshop. My expectations were exceeded on both counts. I enjoyed Martin’s formal and demanding approach to composition and learned a number of new ways to analyze a scene such as the best head angles for the subjects on one’s composition. I was also lucky to meet some talented photographers who also attended the workshop. Both Martin and the other participants shared their knowledge about Berlin and made the rest of my days in Berlin quite productive.

Pentaprisma: Berlin Photo Workshops: what do users think?

Lex On The Road: I enjoyed my workshop with Guillermo. I felt like I learnt a lot in a short space of time and now have more knowledge and confidence to pursue my photography interest further. Thank you.

Tomás Fonseca: We had a lesson with Guillermo! The content and experience was completely adapted to our expectations and learning goals. Great fun and a time well spent! 100% recommended

Kari Hatcher: I really enjoyed the Basic Photography class that I took over two weekends. Tomas was a really fantastic instructor and he gave a great overview of photography basics. I liked the mix of lecture and practical experience in his courses. We reviewed the theory first, practiced what we had just learned and then reviewed all of our photos together. I thought this was a great way to learn and improve my photography skills. We also visited four different and interesting locations that I was not familiar with, even after a year living in Berlin. I would definitely recommend this course and I may take more with Tomas in the future.

Liis K.: My experience with participating in the Pentaprisma photo course in Berlin last summer was simply wonderful! A big thanks to my FIRST official photography teacher Tomas! I enjoyed very much the thorough theoretical structure of the lessons as well as the scenic locations chosen for the shoots around the city. It was a really great way to meet fellow photography enthusiasts as well as to get to know to the city with completely new eyes! I look forward to participating in some of the more advanced level courses. Thanks again, Tomas! I recommend your course warmly!

Matteo Andreani: I was given a 9-hours Pentaprisma workshop voucher by my girlfriend. I practice photography for 10 years, but not professionally. I previously attended "advanced" group workshops and often I went home with little new knowledge in my pocket - mostly because I already owned the specific technical skills that we were taught. Even if I knew this would have been a different experience (a one-to-one, tailored workshop), I thought 9 hours would have been too many and I was scared to necessarily go through the knowledge I already owned. Instead, even before starting the first session, I was asked a small portfolio. This helped Thomas and Guillermo understanding how I could get the best out of the 9 hours workshop. Guillermo, the teacher based in Berlin, helped me improving exactly where I was still sometimes failing: being a critical photographer, before and after a shot was taken. He also helped me critically analyzing and selecting my best shots among the tens of thousands of pictures I had taken in the past years. He patiently and critically analyzed a 100-picture selection I did for the last session (a hell of a job, for both!). He finally helped me understand what photography means for me. I am very grateful to my girlfriend for giving me the opportunity to meet Guillermo. All the best to Pentaprisma team!

Carly Abramovitz: I really enjoyed the Pentaprisma experience. Tomás is a not only knowledgeable about the technical aspects of photography, he is also an artist, which means you learn a lot about composition and it really helps to train your eye. He is a great teacher because he is fun and light-hearted so even the biggest beginner will feel comfortable. An added bonus of the course is getting to explore some interesting places in Berlin and seeing familiar places with a fresh perspective. For me, the best part of the course was the little exercises he sent us out on because we could then go out and practice what we were taught and get immediate feedback. Overall it was a very rewarding experience!

Timothy Olcott: What a great experience! I scheduled 2-three hour workshops during a recent trip to Berlin; each day, I met Guillermo at a coffee shop and we discussed composition on one day and camera settings on another. Afterwards, we walked to different sites for instruction in the field. After the workshops, I continued to think about the techniques Guillermo and I discussed, and I believe the workshops increased my skills as a photographer.

T. Rülala: Today 2 hours of private lessons with Alexander. He is a great teacher who was able to pick me up exactly where I am (i.e. neither over- nor under-challenged me) and was able to illustrate various light and flash situations to me in a comprehensible way. His equipment is terrific and I think it shows how committed he is to teaching. He has a relaxed, calming charisma, I felt very comfortable. After the coaching: The feeling of having received a lot of great new impulses that I can hardly wait to implement! Thanks very much! Great to have someone like that to fall back on!

Kerstin Schimmeyer: Good course for beginners. The technical jargon of the operating instructions is unraveled and Alex ensures that you understand and use the basics of your camera. Each participant and the equipment will be discussed. The documents are also very helpful, especially the cards, which fit perfectly in every small bag.

Tom Grothe: A very flexible coaching! Thank you, I had a lot of fun in our mini group... See you again soon... :)

Christian Gander: Very exciting 3-hour individual course on "Lightroom Classic" and the most diverse areas of application. It is precisely in such individual appointments that you notice that Matthias has a very extensive knowledge and can also apply it in a targeted manner. The virtual atmosphere was very pleasant. I am therefore looking forward to further exchanges and can make a clear recommendation here. Greetings from Magdeburg Chris

sandra: A friend and I took part in the smartphone workshop and were very enthusiastic. The basics and background knowledge of photography, cameras in general and the comparison to smartphone cameras were presented really well and in an interesting way. The examples and exercises were also chosen very well and all the questions of the course participants were well answered. Thanks a lot for this! We will gladly recommend you! :)

MaRa: The photo course was very good! Small group, entertaining theoretical part and then outside. The instructor is personable and competent, takes away the fear of "stupid" questions. It was a nice day with you. I learned a lot about it. Thanks for that!

sebastian obst: I had the 3 hour individual course and it was worth it. The self-selected course content was all well explained, demonstrated with examples and practiced. We recommend.

Collodion Workshop - Collodion Wet Plate Photography - Berlin: what do users think?

Jørn Deleuran: I attended a weekend workshop with Daniel Samanns, and I had no experience whatsoever with the complex and labor intensive wet plate collodion process; Daniel was en excellent teacher, and with enthusiasm and good laughs he passed some of his own, hard earned skills on, so that i am now confident that I will be able to be a practicing collodionist my self.

Robert Wisniewski: Daniel was a great teacher - very accommodating, patient and kind. He was very knowledgeable on the process and brought both fun and a deep understanding to this fascinating process of photography

Zsanett Schmied: The workshop was extremely exciting and intensive. In addition, Daniel is very competent and experienced, which is clearly noticeable. I was able to learn a lot at the workshop and am already looking forward to being able to use the method myself. Anyone who decides to learn wet plate photography from scratch is in good hands with him. Highly recommended!

Luise Zibolsky: I am glad that I made the long way from Amsterdam to Berlin to follow the Collodion Workshop. To my knowledge, the only one in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium takes 2 full days to explain everything, to practice and then try out. The 2 days are needed to understand everything and to learn and to be able to understand the basics of the process. Daniel is very patient, calm (which you should definitely take) and makes a pleasant way to steam when necessary. Overall, a very pleasant and cosmopolitan type with a lot of knowledge, especially about the ambrotypes. It was a fantastic and instructive weekend. Thank you for everything!

Hermann Groess: Daniel Samanns shares his well-founded knowledge with the participants in the collodion workshop. He teaches his course participants directly the skills necessary to achieve the fascinating results that ignite a passion for this historic technique.

Markus Düing: After the 2-day workshop with Daniel Samanns I am able to create my own glass plate. On the first day there were detailed explanations about the process, the liquids to be produced and, most importantly, safety when handling the chemicals. Collodion, developer and fixer were prepared. On the second day, the focus was mainly on practice. By the end of the day I had made my first records. With his calm and patient nature, Mr. Samanns conveys the material in a very pleasant way. It was a very instructive, relaxed and sometimes funny weekend with the result that I can now photograph collodion plates.

Marika: a great workshop last year !!! many thanks dear daniel! i learned a lot ..
